Like many drawn to healthcare, Mike and Kyle’s passion is rooted in experience. Both were inspired early on by the profound effect healthcare has—not just on patients, but on families and entire communities— shaping their lifelong commitment to lead meaningful change.
For Mike Cassling, that passion took hold shortly after college when he joined his father’s imaging service and sales company.
“It was early on when I was first getting into sales, that I realized you can truly make an impact on people’s lives,” said Mike.
For Kyle Salem, it was the loss of his grandfather that ignited a desire to make a difference.
“For a lot of us, it’s personal,” said Kyle. “It becomes a career of passion. Believing, as young as I was, that there was something someone should have been able to do to help my grandfather, launched me towards a career focused on changing lives.”
Bringing Vision to Life
To create meaningful change, Mike and Kyle know it starts with a clear vision. At CQuence, that vision is an ambitious marker to impact 1 billion patient lives by 2030. While the scale may be difficult to grasp, its potential to transform lives is anything but.
“The idea of hitting a billion lives is phenomenal,” said Kyle. “But, our mission is very different than that. Because the billion isn't what matters. Every individual life of that billion is what matters. And that one life has an impact on lives around it.”
With vision alone, only so much can be accomplished. Ideas need people, and purpose-driven action, to bring them to life. Both leaders recognize that achieving this goal requires not just internal commitment, but also alignment across a powerful network of innovators and partners.
“We’re very intentional about communicating and aligning our organization around the mission,” said Kyle. “We do that through open, honest communication with our employees on our progress. We do the same thing with our portfolio, making sure they understand how we can support them and providing updates around both CQuence’s goals and others in the portfolio.”

“If you’re not aligned on vision and values, you’re never going to be aligned on how to move the business forward,” said Mike. “DocPanel is a perfect example of what’s possible when shared purpose drives impact.”
DocPanel is a digital health company that acts as a marketplace for subspecialty radiologists. The company works directly with medical providers and patients to bring high-quality radiology services to every care setting, regardless of location.
“We've been involved with DocPanel since its inception, working as a sounding board for CEO Nirish Mathias as he's built the organization,” said Kyle “If we think about how that impacts care today, they've built the largest subspecialty teleradiology practice in the country.”
Providing over 1 million subspecialty reads annually, DocPanel is just one example of how CQuence’s portfolio is shaping the future of healthcare.
“Our portfolio is our opportunity to broaden our impact,” said Kyle. “By partnering with visionary healthcare innovators, we’re able to extend our reach and make a meaningful difference in more peoples’ lives.”
Measuring What Matters
CQuence’s portfolio partners are doing incredible things in healthcare, each contributing to the company’s “Lives Touched Calculator”, which is a live ticker of patient lives impacted across the portfolio. What excites Mike and Kyle about the future of healthcare? It’s watching these innovative companies succeed and expand their own impact.
“What excites me most is working through CQuence to make sure that we have the best organization possible and the right portfolio to be able to replicate that process over and over again,” said Kyle.
“If you look at the different companies in our portfolio, we're going to continue to have a bigger and bigger impact,” said Mike, “I'm excited to see where all these companies go and what we add.”
