In 2023, CQuence and Cassling employees contributed over 190 hours of volunteer time off (VTO) across multiple nonprofits supporting a wide range of causes.
Every year, the CQ Cares Committee organizes numerous events for CQuence employees to give back to their communities using “Volunteer Time Off.” The employee-led committee strives to seek out areas where volunteer efforts can be the most impactful.
Perhaps the most popular initiative from this year was a Blood Drive that took place in the office this past October.
In September 2023, The American Red Cross identified a critically low blood supply—down 25% from the previous month. Many of our own rallied to contribute, hoping to help alleviate the shortage.
Renee Leners, Receptionist for CQuence, was one of many donors who participated.
“Whether I am giving blood and platelets at the Red Cross, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House or my church, I know I am making a difference in my community.”
Renee recognized the vital role of volunteers, stating, “Without volunteers, many of the organizations would not be able to help those in need. I appreciate that, here at CQuence, we are given VTO hours. The fulfilling feeling of giving back and contributing to society is unparalleled.”
Renee’s sentiment echoes our dedication to preserving community, both inside and outside the workplace.
To uphold the beauty of the city we call home, the CQ Cares Committee also sponsored two Keep Omaha Beautiful outings in 2023. Employees and their families from the Omaha area joined forces to clean up litter at Rockbrook Park.
Camry McCoy, Contract Specialist for Cassling (CQuence’s flagship holding), appreciates how these events allow her to work closely with both her family and colleagues. “I loved that this was an opportunity to get our families involved and pick up trash around the park. In one hour, our team was able to get the entire park cleaned up. It’s amazing how much area you can get through when you divide and conquer.”
Camry underscores the significance of team camaraderie and strengthening relationships across departments.
“It was a great way to get to know other coworkers from other departments you don’t necessarily get to talk to on a regular basis. Not to mention, it was a great teambuilding activity!”
Service Knows No Bounds
VTO opportunities are not restricted to the Omaha community. Many out-of-state and remote employees take advantage of this benefit as well. Team members are encouraged to donate their time to causes near and dear to them, from social justice to animal welfare, addressing health disparities and so much more.
“I love that CQuence gives team members time off to dedicate specifically to causes we're each passionate about,” says Marc Costanzo, Content Marketing Manager for CQuence.
“I used my VTO to support Lungs4Life, a nonprofit dedicated to raising money to support research into non-smoking lung cancer. I sit on the board as vice president, and every year we put on a golf tournament to support this cause.”
Josh Gahn, Project Manager for Cassling, chose to allocate his VTO hours toward a cause he’s been dedicated to for over 15 years—assisting veterans.
“It means the world to me to help veterans,” Josh states. “I’m a combat veteran myself, and it’s a very important part of my life.”
On Veterans Day 2023, Josh’s community in Iowa City, Iowa, organized a variety of initiatives to honor its local veterans. These activities involved complimentary breakfast at Hy-Vee, a combat honors ceremony and more.
“You can tell that Cassling cares about veterans and supports them.”
Whether it’s volunteering at a committee-held event or supporting a personal cause, the spirit of giving back remains at the forefront of our company culture. Through hands-on efforts stretching across state lines, we have the ability not only to make a tangible impact, but bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment to our day-to-day lives.
