Heck, even long-time employees may ask themselves, “how does my work matter?” It’s a natural question when applying for a position.  Rarely have I seen a job description explain how a specific role directly impacts the company’s goals and then clearly communicate the bigger picture.

At CQuence Health Group, each and every job description explains how the role directly impacts the 5 key results we measure quarterly for all our partner companies. Your employer or potential employer should be able to articulate the results they expect and their measurement techniques.

Key Results 1 and 2: Grow

The first two key results won’t surprise you.  We wouldn’t be a top employer if we didn’t pay attention to our Growth and Profit. Those businesses that don’t have focus here aren’t in business long.

Growth and Profit goals are set annually for our businesses.  As employees, we are all expected to do our part to reach these goals.  We push to excel in these areas, and we set the bar high on purpose.

These results give us something to strive for. They are not simple to achieve, but they set us on the path to drive new business and innovation, and that’s why we never rest on our laurels.

Every one of our team members is encouraged to ask themselves how their position enables them to drive Growth and Profit. These results invigorate our employees to succeed by providing an active interest in the overall stakes of the company at large.

Key Result 3: Customer Service

Our third Key Result is the secret ingredient to protecting Growth and Profit: Customer Service!

Nothing does more for our businesses than ensuring our customers are taken care of.  We empower all CQuence employees to do whatever they can to make our customers, both externally and internally,happy.

From the Field Service Engineer taking a service call in the middle of the night to get an MRI up and running, to the software support specialist providing insightful setup instructions for hospital discharge software, even our team member greeting guests at our front door; everyone at CQuence has a means of making our customers feel appreciated.

This not only drives retention, but it is a competitive advantage for us, as few companies do it better!

Key Results 4 and 5: Accountability and Employee Development

On their surface, the last two Key Results are simple, easy terms. . But there’s so much more meaning and power to them than meets the eye. .

Ours is a culture where every individual has the responsibility for, commitment toward and ownership of high performance.  With this empowerment comes accountability.  Accountability guides our behaviors as teams and individuals.  In order to measure our accountability, we ask employees to rate how well we exhibit 16 specific best practices.  On a four-star rating system, our goal is 3.5 or higher. The leadership team takes the feedback to heart. We share the scorecard and the areas identified as needing improvement with all employees. Action plans are put in place with the goal of scoring higher the following year. Transparent communication is key for building trust among the teams.

At CQuence, we are all “Learning, Thriving and Striving to Make a Meaningful Difference in Healthcare,” so we give our employees what they need to learn, grow, and have successful careers.  We care about their professional development which is why Employee Development is a key result and measured every quarter.  For us, this means that every employee has a development plan – 100%.  Our expectation is for managers to be coaching and developing people all year long with the goal of achieving 80% of the plan within one year.  This is so important because we know that the quality of our talent will shape who we will be tomorrow.
